Who we are
One World Films is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1998 to establish an annual film festival in Lexington, Kentucky.
| The mission of One World Films is to increase awareness of social and community issues particularly those of culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender that challenge the increasingly diverse population of Lexington and the Bluegrass area and indeed many other communities. Film, documentary, lecture and interactive discussion are used to explore issues, promote thought about solutions and increase understanding. We also showcase and encourage the work of local filmmakers who address these critical issues. We successfully bring various sectors of our community together to get to know more about each other through film.
| | Films are shown at a variety of venues including the historic Kentucky Theater, the Lexington Public Library Theater, and theaters at the University of Kentucky. We follow screenings with discussions about the issues brought up in the films. Festival highlights include the film participants and directors who are invited to come and discuss their work with audiences and panelists who are expert on the issues raised in the films. All festival screenings are free and open to the public. Festival attendance has been growing each year and we believe our choices this year will draw large and diverse audiences. If you would like flyers for distribution to your employees, customers or friends, you can contact us at owff-lexington@hotmail.com.. | | We are greatly assisted in our work by the financial backing of local businesses, community groups, and individuals. The names of all sponsors will appear in our mailing that goes out to about 900 people, in the 500 other flyers that are distributed around Central Kentucky, on posters, and in the programs handed out at each film. If you would like to make a donation, contact Annette Mayer at 859-266-6073. |
